The Not-So-Good News...

Go down and read the Good News post first to catch up on Baby Manar. These are listed with most recent blog first.
Well, first of all, he is named!!! Benjamin Allen Manar, and will go by Ben. Sorry for all you Lucas fans :)
Yesterday was a bit busy for Ben. He had his circumcision and was checked out by the hospital peds. Everything seemed fine other than a lot of bruising from delivery. Sometimes this happens during a fast delivery...I'm told anything around 30 minutes and under is considered fast. His poor little head, ears, lip, and nose were bruised.
As the day progressed, he seemed a bit uncomfortable, i.e. lethargic and kind of moaning. He spit up quite a few times, and was uninterested in eating. The last feeding I managed to do was around 7:00 p.m. I got a 1/2 oz down him, but it came right back up. He spit up more in the nursery. The nurse noticed his stomach was distended. He also had not had a bowel movement yet, and only 1 wet diaper. The on call Ped. ordered an x-ray of the intestines.
At 10:00 we were told his intestines looked a bit abnormal. "Loopy" is how the ped referred to them. His stomach was large. He was given an NG (nasogastric) tube down the throat to suction old formula and mucous/bile from the stomach. He also had an IV started for fluids and an antibiotic in case of infection.
At 2:00 a suppository was given, and by 3:00 a.m. he had passed a few stools...the thick meconium stools. He had also wet a few more diapers. He was ordered another round of blood work, x-ray, and ultrasound of the brain for the morning (this as a precaution for the bruising on his head and lethargic nature).
So, almost to speed here. Long story short. It is 1:15 P.M. now and here is where we stand.
*Still must stay in nursery.
*Still on NG tube and IV's.
*Ultrasound looks fine on brain.
*X-ray of intestine look better, but still somewhat looped.
*A bit more responsive, but not as active as should be.
He will remain on the NG and IV thru the night. New x-rays in the morning and new bloodwork. He will be here until at least Monday. He will also have a genetic test done Monday as a precaution for Cystic Fibrosis. Apparently the stool situation is a sign of this, but neither Andy or I are known carriers. Hopefully this will be ruled out and off our minds.
That's all for now. It's crazy not being able to hold the little guy, but he seems more comfortable today. It's currently quiet time in the special care nursery so we'll visit him again later.
Please say a little prayer for good health, improved intestines, and more poop.
